A Neighborly Design

Mosaic Oaks was designed from its inception to be a front porch community with each house featuring a large front porch. To encourage neighborly interaction, the porches are in relatively close proximity to the community sidewalk that runs in front of the houses. People can relax on their front porch within a short distance of where their neighbors may stroll, thereby encouraging community interaction.

Of course, the community's design only starts at the front porch. Mosaic Oaks began with the concept of being a small neighborhood with intimately sized lots, all fronted by naturally landscaped community spaces. The lots are arranged around a private circular street with continuous sidewalks on both sides of the road.

Between the sidewalk and the curbs are plantings of indigenous hardwood trees and select shrubbery to provide a natural buffer between the street and the pedestrian areas. In addition to providing a buffer, the trees will grow to provide shade and a connection to nature that will encourage pedestrian traffic long into the future.

The sidewalks start and end at two beautiful ponds that border the Mosaic Oaks entrance drive. Teeming with fish and surrounded by lush natural landscaping filled with birds, squirrels, and other wildlife, the ponds are self-contained ecosystems. Along with the spectacle of aeration fountains in the middle of each pond, there is an undeniably relaxing effect one gets from looking in to the water. And, to maximize the effect, people can truly enjoy the view from large wood-framed pergolas that extend out and over each pond.

Location

One of the area's earliest waterfront towns, located east of Destin on Choctawhatchee Bay, is being rediscovered as a community that offers the authentic Old Florida way of life. Native Americans were the earliest residents of what came to be known as Old Town Santa Rosa. Pottery shards and oyster shell implements have been found along the banks of the area's bayfront, bayous and creeks.

Just 1.3 miles west of U.S. 331 on Chat Holley Road, Mosaic Oaks is conveniently located within minutes of the beautiful beaches of South Walton and the waters of the Choctawhatchee Bay. At the same time, it is off the beaten track, offering a quiet, private neighborhood setting with minimal traffic.
